While I’m sure I’ve waxed poetic on here before about my love of summertime, I think autumn might just be my favourite season. Be it the extra layers, the slight chill in the air, the increase of cozy nights in, or my perennial nesting habit, autumn brings about a few of my favourite things.
Year after year, I turn to the same classic pieces and silhouettes to see me through the season. As Miranda Priestly would surely declare, there’s nothing groundbreaking about anything I’m sharing here, but these are my go-to pieces that I think epitomize that effortless autumnal vibe.
Classic checks. Maybe it’s my love for anything remotely reminiscent of classic British style, or a subconscious nostalgia for back to school time and collegiate flare, but there’s nothing I love more this time of year than a classic check. Basically anything that makes me feel like a grandpa, I’m into.
This particular piece is a favourite from last autumn’s Everlane collection. It’s made of wool so super warm, and pulls together any outfit. I think that’s the beauty of a classic checked blazer, how it makes you (and your outfit) feel instantly smarter. I’m also in love with these gloriously comfy checked pants from Aritzia — perfect for lounging now and eventually when we need to dress up again. I have them in two colours and can confirm, they are as cozy as they look.

Timeless sweaters. As I warned you before, nothing groundbreaking here. That said, I’m a knitwear obsessive and have some strong opinions when it comes to sweaters. First and foremost, material is key. I gravitate to natural fibres such as wool, cashmere, and cotton to keep things breathable. While bulky sweaters have their time and place, my go-to’s tend to be lighter weight. And of course, neutral colours to keep everything feeling classic and androgynous for autumn.
This is one of my favourite sweaters. It’s my aunt’s from the 90s, cashmere, and actually short sleeved so it fits so nicely under blazers. I also have my eye firmly on this masterpiece from Sézane — slightly oversized, not too bulky, goes with everything.
Chunky loafers. Very on brand with my grandpa comment at the start of this post, the chunky loafer is a classic that I don’t think is going anywhere anytime soon. It seems like every year there are several iterations: the old faithful, the designer option, and the version I have (which also happens to be on sale).
When the temps start to drop, I always reach for these to channel that collegiate, autumnal energy and to keep my toes that little bit warmer. Add a pair of socks when it gets colder and you’re set.
